The Quote That Inspired Me to Start Creating My Own Life

Finding Purpose Isn't the Answer - Creating it is...
One of the most powerful moments in my life began with a single quote back in 2008 (I was 25): “Life is not about finding yourself, Life is about creating yourself.” by George Bernard Shaw - It was in that instant, after reading those last two words that something within me immediately shifted. I remember sitting in silence, almost in shock, as I realized what those words had just revealed to me. They turned my understanding of the whole "finding myself" mentality upside down.
By the way - I love quotes! They’ve always inspired and motivated me in different ways, but this was the one that genuinely changed my perspective. Suddenly, I realized I was in charge of my path, not simply trying to find it but actively creating it. This was my invitation to take control and create a life that would fulfill me from the inside out - in mind, body, and soul.
I knew right then that the direction I had been following wasn’t the one I truly wanted. I’d spent years in a corporate job as a commercial insurance agent, chasing a big income, yet feeling that something essential was missing. My soul was craving something real, something I could build, create, and love. And in that moment, I realized I didn’t have to wait around to find it. I could create it.
So, I did what some might think was risky or, to others, just plain wild: I left the corporate grind to join the fitness industry. I traded in my steady paycheck for endless potential and new opportunities. I walked into a gym as a fitness trainer, and from there, the world opened up in ways I could never have anticipated. They say that once you take the leap, doors start opening - and they did.
Soon, I was teaching Zumba and Salsa classes, impacting lives as a fitness trainer, and connecting with amazing friends who became collaborators and motivators. Together, we cohosted radio shows, created dance ensembles, led workshops, and so much more! I was creating a world I had always dreamed of - a life filled with movement, music, and self-expression.
And it didn’t stop there. I plunged even deeper into dance, competing individually and in group competitions. I took on running, training for 5Ks, 10Ks, half-marathons, triathlons, all while connecting with others on their own journeys. I realized that I was the one manifesting it all. This energy I was putting out into the world was coming back to me as growth, friendships, success, and pure joy.
To this day, that quote remains my life mantra. I remind myself, often, that I am in charge of what I create in my life. I have the power. I send my intentions into the universe, and it responds with incredible opportunities and experiences. Life isn’t about wandering aimlessly, hoping to “find yourself.” If you’re searching, you’ll probably just end up feeling lost. Instead, start creating your path right now, with whatever you have.
So, here’s my question to you: What can you create for yourself today? Take that small step, and watch how your world begins to open up.
With much love,
